Main Purpose & Function
The Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation is seeking to fulfil an exciting employment opportunity within the Northeast False Creek (NEFC) Project Office, located at Broadway & Cambie Streets in Vancouver. The NEFC Project Office is responsible for the planning and design of a new neighbourhood, road network and series of parks and open spaces that will emerge with the removal of the Georgia and Dunsmuir viaducts. The Vancouver Park Board has retained James Corner Field Operations as the lead designer on this significant project. The Planning Analyst will focus to supporting the planning, research and design activities of the Parks team, with a specific emphasis on public engagement and interdepartmental coordination.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager of Research and Planning, the Planning Analyst is responsible for the data collection, logistics, planning and research activities that provides foundational information to the implementation of the vision of preserving and advocating for Vancouvers parks and recreation services. The Planning Analysts detailed research, recommended consultation plans and advice are then utilized by park planners and landscape architects in the implementation of diverse range of park, recreation and environmentally-based projects, policy and strategies.

As a member of the Northeast False Creek Project Office and in collaboration with the NEFC Lead Park Planner and Landscape Architect, the Planning Analyst will focus on supporting the planning and design of a new urban waterfront park on a brownfield site in collaboration with locally and internationally acclaimed private sector landscape architects. The work will also include the renewal of Andy Livingstone Park and existing Creekside Park, the creation of new public spaces resulting from the removal of the Georgia and Dunsmuir Viaducts, and other associated projects.

The Planning Analyst is also required to write Board reports and memos (that are presented to Park Board Commissioners by senior staff), external correspondence and prepare presentations. The incumbent is also responsible for tracking and reporting financial performance/accounts in SAP including Capital Plan Budgets and community funding programs.

The Planning Analyst manages external contractors, advises and develops studies, surveys, and monitoring and evaluation tools, prepares and delivers presentations to internal and external audience and implements public engagement plans. The incumbent will liaise with a diverse range of stakeholders, including the non-profit sector, foundations and other levels of government. The position involves cross-departmental coordination and provides support to research, planning and design projects based on park, recreation and environmental priorities.
