Main Purpose and Function
The Senior Diking Engineer provides leadership and engineering expertise to an inter-disciplinary, inter-departmental team responsible for leading the development and implementation of the Citys Diking Authority and Diking Utility Strategy. The Senior Diking Engineer supports the Citys efforts to be a leader in drainage, diking, access to nature in the environment adjoining waterways, fostering a green economy and building a resilient city in the face of a changing climate.

The Senior Diking Engineer provides strategic planning and technical expertise and develops a variety of policies, designs, best practices, procedures and programs for implementation to help the City meet the targets set in the Climate Change Adaptation Strategy. Furthermore, the role will use the implementation of diking as an opportunity to leverage co-benefits for other City goals related to sustainable transportation, place-making, community building, access to nature and natural processes, urban forestry, green jobs and social sustainability.

Key Contacts and Reporting Relationships
The Senior Diking Engineer reports to the Manager of Sewer Design. The position will frequently engage senior planning, development services and engineering staff from across the organization. This role will also have occasional engagement with branch managers and make occasional presentations to senior management and/or Council.

The position will be a central point of contact on more complex, challenging or contentious inquiries and/or engagement programs with the public, external partners and development applicants. Furthermore, the position will take on a leadership role within the diking team as the lead senior engineer for the team and as a back-up for the branch manager in administrative and branch management duties.
