Main Purpose and Function

The City of Vancouver is striving to become the greenest city in the world by 2020 and has set goals and priorities so that it can be a prosperous, sustainable, affordable, and inclusive place to live, play, work, visit and do business. While a growing city with new development has impacts, guided by community planning and city-wide policies and an innovative mix of funding tools, new developments help deliver significant community benefits, amenities and services to serve new residents, workers and visitors.

In 2016, over 5,000 building and development permits were approved, with a construction value of $2.7 billion. The Issues Manager will represent the General Manager, Planning, Urban Design & Sustainability, in these complex business relationship matters and be responsible for facilitating cross-functional teams to achieve outcome based results in collaboration with city departments, developers, landowners, community groups, and government agencies. By ensuring issues resolution, negotiations and implementation strategies are conducted in partnership with senior leaders in the PDS department and across the organization, the Issues Manager will enable service delivery and innovation within PDS to support achievement of the Citys overall objectives.
