(Temporary Full-time)

The Engineering, Parks and Environment Department requires a temporary full-time Supervisor, Operations, Sewer in the Utilities Division for approximately 1 year.

In this leadership role you will report to the Section Manager, Utilities and be responsible for skilled supervisory work coordinating, directing and participating in the work of crews engaged in a variety of operations, maintenance and construction tasks in the Sewer/Utilities branch. You will schedule, coordinate and supervise the work of the Sewer Crews ensuring performance standards, specifications and safety procedures are met, as well as coordinate with external contractors and agencies.

You will also be responsible for organizing, coordinating, directing and supervising the work of crews in the solid waste section, working towards implementing reduction strategies. You may also be responsible for construction and servicing of the hydronic heating systems (the Lonsdale Energy Corporation (LEC) is our award-winning state-of-the-art heating system).

You will prepare cost and time estimates, monitor budget expenditures, and participate in the development of annual work schedules, oversee operating and capital budgets, and long range planning. In addition you will establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts, receive and resolve service requests and complaints from the public and other departments, prepare and maintain records/reports, and order materials/equipment.

You will have completed Grade 12, supplemented by a diploma or trade (or other) qualifications in a field related to the work and possess considerable related knowledge and experience, preferably in a supervisory capacity. A thorough knowledge of the methods, practices, procedures and materials, tools and equipment used in sewer/utilities operations, maintenance and construction operations is required. The position requires strong leadership with a demonstrated ability to work in a team setting along with excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. You will be proficient with Microsoft Office, PeopleSoft and Hansen, or similar Financial and Asset Management systems. A valid Class 5 BC Drivers License is also required.

For temporary full-time positions of eight (8) months or longer, a City employee who is successful on the posting will have the right to revert to their former position.

$40.60 per hour
(January 2018 rates)

Hours of Work:
8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday
