We are looking for a committed Senior Branch Head to lead our Sewer Operations division. The City's sewage and drainage system consists of sanitary, storm, and combined sewer mains, pump stations, catch basins, and numerous manholes, outfalls, and other associated equipment. The Sewers Operations Branch constructs, operates, and maintains the system with approximately 170 union and exempt staff working in technical, administration and operational positions. The branch's annual operating budget is approximately $10 million, and they undertake over $50 million annually of in-house capital construction.

Reporting to the Director, Water and Sewer and Green Infrastructure, this position will be responsible for managing capital and operating programs and budgets, equipment and materials utilization, human resource and labour management issues, employee and public health and safety, customer relations, and benchmarking and continuous improvement in all areas as required.

As the ideal candidate you will bring a combination of technical competence, analytical, organizational, problem solving, conflict resolution, and decision making skills. Your proven ability to create and manage engineering budgets, cost controls, scheduling and work planning and handle numerous projects simultaneously while demonstrating commitment to excellent service delivery for all internal and external customers. You will also bring your ability to initiate and implement creative and innovative technical, policy or process changes while ensuring buy-in from staff and other stakeholders.

In addition you are able to prepare and deliver clear and concise reports on complex or technical issues suitable to a variety of audiences including City Council. As an excellent developer of teams you are able to maximize the engagement and contributions of the team to meet changing business needs. Your ability to look for opportunities to improve operations and to guide, motivate and manage a team of both union and exempt employees will help you to be successful in this role.

The successful candidate will have combined education preferably in engineering public works along with a minimum of 15 years leading diverse and complex projects and teams. Preference will be given to those with significant experience working in the fields of municipal utility construction, operations and maintenance.
