The position of Trades Foreman 2 involves skilled supervisory shop and field work involving responsibility for planning, scheduling, and directing directly and through subordinates the work of a diversified group of tradesmen and other subordinates engaged in a variety of skilled, semiskilled and unskilled painting, carpentry, plumbing and building maintenance tasks. The incumbent will exercise considerable independent judgement and action in planning, scheduling, coordinating and supervising operations and is responsible for the effective progress and completion of assigned projects and work. The work is performed under minimal supervision and oral and written assignments are received from a superior who evaluates work performance in terms of efficient and effective operation of the services rendered. The incumbent will schedule and coordinate work within and with other branches as required to ensure efficient operation, set priorities within established guidelines, train new subordinates regarding Municipal standards and methods and monitors the work of crews to ensure adherence to established safety procedures; participates in the selection of new trades subordinates.

The incumbent will prepare budgets and monitor expenditures, notify a superior of potential overruns and provide rationale for overruns as requested; prepares written and verbal cost estimates for specific jobs. Additionally, the incumbent will prepare estimates and records, monitor budget expenditures, order equipment and materials and read and interpret plans, blueprints and diagrams. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of the 12th school grade supplemented by technical courses related to the work and completion of recognized trade apprenticeship plus considerable journeyman experience in a trade supervised, preferably in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The ideal candidate has thorough knowledge of the methods, practices, tools materials and equipment used in the diversified trades operations under supervision, considerable knowledge of the hazards and safety practices peculiar to the various operations supervised and knowledge of the scope, function, rules and regulations governing the shops operations and of the requirements of those served by same. The incumbent must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts including responding to queries and complaints from the public referring contentious or difficult matters to a superior. Additionally, appropriate Certificate of Trade Qualifications and a Class 5 Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia are required.
