Vancouver Fire & Rescue Services (VF&RS) invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Deputy Fire ChiefOperations and Professional Development.

Reporting to the Fire Chief / General Manager, you will lead the following VF&RS divisions: (a) Emergency Operations, (b) Special Operations and EMS (c) Training and Professional Development, Outreach, Recruitment. You will be part of the VF&RS Executive along with the Fire Chief and three other Deputy Chiefs.

This is a key leadership position at VF&RS. Your work will be integral to facilitating effective evidence based decision making and improving VF&RS performance against accepted industry and City of Vancouver benchmarks. You will be a key leader in the achievement operational and professional development performance objectives.

You must be an excellent internal and external communicator and relationship builder. Change management skills are essential. You will significantly influence the direction and focus of the department. You will lead the design of VF&RS operational model and be responsible for assessing and updating the VF&RS Standards of Cover. You will lead the design and implementation of community outreach and recruiting programs, and strive to meet the City of Vancouvers diversity goals. You will lead VF&RS to be a recognized leader in emergency services training and professional development programs. You will oversee Canada Task Force One and ensure that the HUSAR team is prepared for deployments in the City, provincially, nationally or internationally. You will design EMS operational components to ensure an appropriate level of service delivery and strong partnerships with BC Emergency Health Services.

You will support the Fire Chief in the leadership of operational design, succession planning, professional development, business planning, and quality assurance processes. You will play a key role in oversight of the budget process and talent management programs specific to your divisions.
