Chief Administrative Officer

From CivicInfo BC - May 16, 2016

Due to a planned retirement at the CVRD, the position of Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) will become available.

The Organization: Comox Valley Regional District

Following the restructure of the Comox Strathcona Regional District into two new entities in 2008, the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) was established as a federation of three electoral areas and three municipalities, providing sustainable services for its residents as well as visitors to the area. The CVRDs borders extend from Cook Creek in the south to the Oyster River in the north, and from Strathcona Park in the west to Denman and Hornby Islands in the east, covering an area of roughly 2,425 km2.

The CVRD provides over 90 services to its residents, ranging from water and wastewater treatment, recycling depots, landfill and waste management, recreation centres, fire and emergency response services, business inspection, land use planning, and much more. With a growing population of roughly 63,538, and a culture and history intertwined with traditional BC industries such as farming, agriculture, and forestry, the CVRD has grown into a thriving, enriched environment with residents who take pride in their rural community.

The Opportunity: Chief Administrative Officer

Under the direction of the Board of Directors, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) has responsibility for the management and administration of regional district operations, in accordance with appropriate and established bylaws, statutes, policies, and regulations. In addition to possessing years of municipal government experience and/or a previous track record of executive leadership, the CAO will bring proven success in strategic thinking, business strategy, and change management with the Board of Directors and the community at large.

The CAO is the leader of the CVRDs Executive Management Team, and supervisor of its various Department Heads. The CAO attends all Board and Committee meetings, and provides frequent guidance, advice, and updates to the Board of Directors on all aspects of the CVRDs operations. By providing effective strategic leadership and responsible management to all regional district staff, the CAO will ensure thorough community engagement, economic development, fiscal accountability, and an open and transparent atmosphere of collaboration throughout the CVRD.
