Director of Engineering & Public Works

The City of Nanaimo is looking for a Director of Engineering & Public Works. The Director is responsible for the services and programs provided by the Engineering and Public Works department.

The Director of Engineering & Public Works leads a management team for the planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of approximately $1.9 billion of City assets. The Director oversees the services provided for water, sewer, drainage, transportation, fleet, sanitation and recycling and takes a lead role in the Citys asset management process.

The Director is required to liaise with all levels of government and external agencies and maintain a working relationship with City Council, Administration, all departments within the corporate structure as well as with local community groups and businesses.

Applicants must have a Bachelors Degree in civil engineering, business administration or public administration and 8 years of progressively responsible related experience, including 4 years in a management supervisory role (or an equivalent combination of education and experience). Applicants should also have demonstrated problem solving abilities, excellent communication skills and extensive cost accounting/budgetary experience.

This is an excluded position within the City of Nanaimo offering a competitive salary and benefit package.
