Cultural and Museum Services Manager

Reporting to the Deputy Director of Parks, Recreation & Culture, as a Cultural & Museum Services Manager you will provide strategic leadership, oversee planning and implementations of all programs and services related to cultural and museum services delivery, including ensuring maintenance, safety and security of the facilities. You will be responsible for a robust outreach program and associated exhibits, all public services, liaising with the community advisory board (society), supporting the Parks, Recreation & Culture Commission and working with the local and professional community to enhance the scope and delivery of a variety of service. The Manager will supervise and direct a team of staff and volunteers and be accountable for the annual operating budget and regular administrative functions. You are responsible for the management and development of the outreach and community based programs, special events, museum and historic properties & assets owned by the community advisory board.

The successful candidate will demonstrate experience in the philosophy and practice of community development and have strong interpersonal skills and leadership abilities. Technical knowledge of arts & cultural program delivery and museum practices. Considerable experience in the delivery of museum services or a related field is preferred. You will bring a strong understanding of cultural and heritage program operations including financial management, audit and control functions and fine arts, anthropology, cultural or museum studies and your ability to successfully write grants and manage projects.

The ideal candidate will have a degree in museum or a related discipline with sound related experience in museum, cultural or artistic disciplines with regard to both curatorial work and administrative/operations management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. You bring experience in recruitment, supervision, scheduling, performance management and development of inter-disciplinary staff teams and cultural facility operation and management. Considerable experience working with volunteers and sustaining active community partnership is required. Excellent computer skills and competency with database use; outstanding oral, written and interpersonal skills; and a valid Class 5 BC Drivers License are needed.
