This is skilled, routine truck driving work involving the operation of a vehicle size not over 24,000 lbs and used in a variety of sidewalk maintenance tasks. The work includes the safe and efficient operation of a truck, loading and dumping a variety of materials and transporting personnel, equipment, and supplies. The incumbent directs and participates in the work of one or more helpers engaged in semi-skilled sidewalk maintenance tasks while truck idles. Some of these tasks include using jackhammers to break and load concrete, forming, placing wet concrete and laying drain tile. Incumbent may perform minor maintenance and cleaning of the vehicle as well as transport a variety of materials such as concrete, drain rock, sand and wet cement to and from work sites. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include up to high school graduation plus thorough knowledge of the proper methods and operations used in loading, transporting and unloading of equipment and materials. Considerable knowledge of truck driving techniques as applied to construction and maintenance work and operating same in congested traffic conditions. Sound knowledge of City street layout and traffic routes and as well as departmental operations. Ability to operate dump truck safely and efficiently as well as carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to direct and participate in work of others at job sites while the truck is idle. Drivers License for the Province of British Columbia, Class 5 with Air Brake endorsement is required.
